There are many responsibilities to owning a horse and Emily McGee, an NSU Cowgirl that competes in break-away roping and barrel racing, enjoys using her GOOD HORSE SENSE (GHS) to help educate the public on proper horse care and related costs.
Every year there are thousands of reported cases of equine abuse and neglect. However, through Emily's GHS demonstrations on the correct way to care for a horse, students can gain knowledge about the anatomy of a horse, proper healthcare, and preventative measures to take in order to ensure the horse’s health. Students can also learn how to help to identify, report, and prevent horse abuse in their community.
Owning a horse is a fun and rewarding experience; but, it is also a big responsibility that requires time and knowledge of proper horse care and health including feeding, grooming, worming, and hoofcare. With the proper education on how to care for a horse both those who are interested in owning one and those who already do can learn the right way to care for their horse and help prevent abuse. more...
